Newport Beach Gas Prices Rise for Fourth Consecutive Week

This one goes out to all the powder-hunters planning a weekend trip to Mammoth: Gas prices in Newport Beach are still on the rise, ticking higher each week of January 2018. As of today, the national gas price average is at $2.553/gallon, up one cent from last week. In California, the gas price average is even higher at $3.208/gallon. Orange County’s average price is slightly more grim than this statewide figure: $3.276/gallon as of Jan. 24.

For consumers, the questions is how high are gas prices going to go in 2018,” said Jeanette Casselano, AAA spokesperson. “Since 2014, gas prices decreased as much as 20 cents in the first three weeks of the year. This year, gas prices are five cents more than on January 1 of this year, a possible indication that prices in 2018 will likely be more expensive than last year.”

The good news is that Orange County’s current average gas price is still far from the highest-ever average, recorded Oct. 8, 2012 at $4.690/gallon. Still, you may want to plan ahead if you’re looking at a weekend spent on the road. To help out, AAA has a handy gas cost calculator you can access here.
