This morning at 7:01 a.m., the Newport Beach Police Department (NBPD) received a call from a man to report the discovery a dead body at Bonita Canyon Sports Park (1880 Ford Road, Newport Beach). Officers responded to the scene and initiated a death investigation. The NBPD later issued this statement:
“We are deeply saddened to report that our preliminary findings indicate that a local teenage boy has taken his own life. The boy’s name is being withheld to protect the privacy of his family. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this tragedy.”
In the light of the terrible incident, the NBPD shared suicide-prevention resources and support group information.

The Survivor Support Services program provides support for those who have lost a loved one to suicide and those who have survived a suicide attempt. The program educates the community on suicide prevention and intervention. These services include crisis support bereavement groups.
