Whether the lease was up and the place didn’t want to renew or business was just slooooow, these Newport Beach restaurants are no more:
Slapfish
A modern seafood shack that had delicious lobster rolls and fish dishes, Slapfish was an easy go-to for a quick brunch or lunch. The design of the small space was inviting and totally local, with throwback images of Newport Beach adoring almost every wall. Plus, with its message to be both sustainable and local, it spread nothing but good vibes across our coastal land. P.S. A sign on the door reads: “This restaurant is moving. In the meantime please visit the Huntington Beach location @ 19696 Beach Blvd., Huntington Beach, CA 92648.”
Orange Blossom Cafe
A beachside coffee shop with charm, charisma and views. Orange Blossom Cafe fell victim to its management saying, “No thanks,” when lease renewal time came. A chance encounter with the landlord explained the casual nonchalance of the closing, which really was the result of nothing more than an expired lease. Residents of East Balboa may mourn this tiny beachside eatery but we suggest hopping over to nearby Balboa Lily’s for a caffeinated fix.
Pizza Nova
Again, lease issues are to blame for this pizza place on the water shutting down. A perennial stop for semi-Italian eats, Pizza Nova was a good date night or take-out option.
