Have you seen the Little Free Library on Balboa Island?

“There is more treasure in books than all the pirate’s loot on Treasure Island.” – Walt Disney

If you’ve ever taken a stroll around the path that twists along Balboa Island, you’ve probably passed a tiny blue structure sitting on the side of the way. Inside are no more than ten or twenty books, donated by the Balboa Island community or by those who walk by, book in hand. Each book is well-loved, well-read and free to take. It’s called the Little Free Library, and it was installed years ago by a non-profit of the same name.

Little Free Library is a global organization that inspires a love of reading, builds community, and sparks creativity by fostering neighborhood book exchanges around the world.

Take a book, leave a book, says this tiny blue library in unspoken words and oft-turned pages. Through Little Free Library’s literary mission, millions of books have been exchanged through 60,000 minuscule libraries found in 80 countries. How lucky are we to be part of such a movement that spread the love of reading around the world and in our community?
