Success, in any form, should be celebrated, recognized and given its due day in the sun. There’s just too much bad in this world not to take a minute to acknowledge the good.
Here are the awards and accolades bestowed on Newport Beach community members in December:
Ruby’s Diner Celebrates 35-Year Anniversary
It all began with a run. In the early 1980s, Doug Cavanaugh jogged past a dilapidated, old bait shop at the end of Balboa Pier. Cavanaugh had just returned to Southern California after successfully launching a restaurant on Nantucket Island off Cape Cod and was searching for business opportunities along the West Coast. He enlisted the help of his friend, Ralph Kosnides, and together, the two opened a 45-seat restaurant in December of 1982 and named it Ruby’s after Cavanaugh’s mother. Thirty-five years later, the throwback diner is now a brand of nostalgic Ruby’s locations throughout Orange County, and the original Ruby’s still sits on Balboa Pier, an ode to a time gone by hovering just above the ocean.
