Whimsical Watercolors Now at John Wayne

Artist Nancy Caldwell is inspired by a lot. Places, dreams, thoughts, and when inspiration strikes, so does her careful hand, crafting watercolors and doodles that capture the essence of creativity unhinged, allowed to be free and fun. Her work, a collection named “Play Drawing Paintings” is on display at John Wayne Airport’s Community Focus Space now until Dec. 13. (Upcoming displays include photographer Joel Brown from Dec. 14 through Jan. 16 and painter Dennis Carrie from Jan. 17 to Feb. 14.)

July 4th Parade, Huntington Beach

“Nancy Caldwell’s creative and vibrant watercolor paintings are sure to delight visitors and residents alike,” said Orange County Board of Supervisors Chairman Andrew Do. “As you travel through John Wayne Airport, take a moment to enjoy her imaginative creations.”

Growing up, Caldwell always knew she’d become an artist. She studied watercolor and painting her entire life, and combined this formal training with spontaneity and whimsy to build an aesthetic all her own. Her work . has been featured in Watercolor Artist magazine, Ones to Watch (Dec. 2015) and in numerous juried exhibitions, including the Oceanside Museum of Art/National Watercolor Show, Orange County Fair and California Watercolor Association. She’s also an admired instructor, with teaching credits at the Huntington Beach Art Center, Yosemite Conservacy,  and has volunteered for the Watercolor West Board.
