Local Beer, Local Fun

It was the wise Samuel Adams who once said, “Beer should be cold … and local.” JK, I have no idea what he said about beer, although I’m sure it was something. Anyway, if you’re a local and craft beer enthusiast, here’s where to go on Balboa Peninsula.

Chihuahua Cerveza

3107 Newport Blvd, Newport Beach, CA 92663

This fast-casual spot is an extension of the Chihuahua Cerveza brand, which serves its four Mexican-style beers at its Balboa Peninsula taproom on a pour-your-own-beer wall. Simply purchase a bracelet, tap it against a tap and let the beer flow free. Plus, because the craft beers are all brewed right here in Newport Beach, the prices at the eponymous eatery are incredibly reasonable.

Circle Hook Fish Co.

3432 Via Oporto Suite 104, Newport Beach, CA 20663

As far as beer-and-food-places go, this one is GOOD. The brainchild of Bear Flag Fish Co.’s Thos Carson and fourth-generation Dory Fleet fisherman Scott Breneman (the two have been fishing buddies since childhood), Circle Hook delivers on the fresh fish paired with craft beer. Stop by the small eatery to see what’s on tap and be prepared for deliciousness.

Lido Bottle Works

3408 Via Oporto Suite 103, Newport Beach, CA 92663 // 949) 529-2784

Its food is elegant, its location ideal (on Newport Bay in a cozy, dimly lit little spot) and its beers craft and local. Lido Bottle Works offers beer flights and esoteric brews from Stone Brewing Co. (Escondido, Calif.); AleSmith Brewing Company (San Diego, Calif.); Barley Forge Brewing Co. (Costa Mesa, Calif.); Green Cheek Beer Co. (Orange, Calif.); Brewery Rex (Santa Barbara, Calif.); Sanctum Brewing Company (Pomona, Calif.); Smog City Brewing Co. (Torrance, Calif.); and The Dudes’ Brewing Company (Torrance, Calif.)

Malibu Farm

3420 Via Oporto, Suite 101 & 3416 Via Oporto, Suite 104

A cozy, spot in Lido Marina Village serving local beers and stunning waterfront views of Newport Bay. Brews on tap (subject to change) include: Modern Times Ice Pilsner, Stone Delicious IPA, Thorn Barrio Mexican Lager, Strand 24th Street Pale Ale, Cali Squeeze Blood Orange, St. Archer White, Anderson Valley Boont Amber, Belching Beaver Peanut Butter, Latitude 33 Mangoveza.

Mutt Lynch’s

2300 W Oceanfront, Newport Beach, CA 92663 // (949) 675-1556

Famously, beer at Mutt Lynch’s can be ordered in 32 oz. schooners and with a whole bunch of local brews on tap, you’ll probably want to fill up. Included on the menu: Ballast Point (San Diego and Long Beach, Calif.); Bootleggers Brewery (Fullerton, Calif.); Stone Brewing Co. (Escondido, Calif.); and Golden Road Brewing (Los Angeles).

Sessions West Coast Deli

2823 Newport Blvd., Newport Beach, CA 92663

This place is 100% local and 100% good vibes. From the extra-large cookies to the incredible sandwiches and surf-chic decor, there’s nothing NOT to love about Sessions West Coast Deli. And did we mention Sessions serves bottomless mimosas and $3 pints every Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.? No? OK, cool. Visit the Newport Beach location and discover what pints are available (it changes pretty frequently) but they’re always out of the ordinary and always worthy of a rad, beer-sipping time.
