Late Night

Cassidy’s Bar & Grill

2603 Newport Blvd., Newport Beach, CA 92663

Don’t bother clicking on the “Cassidy’s Bar & Grill” title above or asking us why we didn’t include a link to a menu. Cassidy’s doesn’t even have a website (or social media) and that’s why we love it. Cassidy’s burgers are known as the best in O.C. and trust us, their no-nonsense fare more than lives up to the hype. For those who want a little sizzle to their slider, add the “special sauce.” Burgers are served until about midnight on weekdays and 9 p.m. on weekends.

Chocolate Bash

2233 W. Balboa Blvd. #110, Newport Beach, CA 92663

You know when people say something is a “hidden gem” because nobody actually knows it exists? Well, let us introduce you to Chocolate Bash, a small creperie tucked into the coastal quaintness of W. Balboa Blvd. Self-proscribed as offering crêpes and waffles that boast “the genuine flavors that you’d find overseas,” Chocolate Bash serves waffles, mini powdered-sugar pancakes and made-to-order crepes with all the fixings (cookie crumbles, chocolate drizzles, fresh fruit). If you’re looking for a semi-late-night snack, this place keeps its doors open until midnight every single day of the week.

City Donuts

2727 Newport Blvd., Ste 300, Newport Beach, CA 92663

City Donuts—open 24 hours a day, seven days a week—is one of the most frequented late-night eateries on Balboa Peninsula. Stop in during the wee hours of the morning and you’re bound to run into a brood of debaucherous, fun-loving patrons. The donuts are notably mediocre—not great but not bad either—but the truth is, customers who stop by just want something to eat during those precarious hours of the night between closing time and bedtime.

Laventina’s Big Cheese Pizza

2819 Newport Blvd Suite B, Newport Beach, CA 92663

The perennial local favorite for a late-night bite, Laventina’s Big Cheese Pizza is the no-brainer go-to after a long night out. (Laventina’s stays open until 1:15 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.) The staff at this 25-year-running institution is friendly and efficient; the pizza is fresh and delicious; and the ambience of party-going pizza lovers voraciously hovering over a cheese-dripping, hot-out-of-the-oven slice really can’t be beat.

Seaside Donuts Bakery

2108 W. Oceanfront, Newport Beach, CA 92663

Like City Bakery, Seaside Donuts is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The truth is, if you closed your eyes, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between donuts from Seaside or donuts from City Bakery but location, location, location! Seaside is found right along W. Oceanfront, next to iconic beach bars like Blackies, Beach Ball and around the corner, The Blue Beet. It tends to get crowded late at night and early Sunday morning but its fare is both simple and sweet. Added bonus: Seaside offers powdered sugar and glazed cronuts.

Taco Bell Cantina

2121 W Balboa Blvd., Newport Beach, CA 92663

Taco Bell Cantina is a tiny wedge of an eatery standing tall and proud next to Stag Bar on 22nd St. off W. Balboa Blvd. The place is open 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. every day of the week. And while it might smell like a Taco Bell and taste like a Taco Bell, this one serves six location-specific appetizers, wine and beer, including a local brew collab with Huntington Beach’s Four Sons Brewing.
