Vans U.S. Open of Surfing: The Return of a Defending Champion

Things are certainly heating up on the beach in Surf City. 2017 Vans U.S. Open of Surfing defending champion Kanoa Igarashi scored the highest points on a wave and the round 2 of the Men’s Qualifying Series 10,000; and Men’s and Women’s Pro Junior Final match ups are set. The men also narrow their field down to 48 competitors vying for vital points toward Championship Tour (CT) qualification.

The Vans U.S. Open of Surfing continues today at 7:30 a.m. The women’s skateboarding prelims and semi finals of the Vans Park Series will also take place today from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Vans Pro Park.

Also, the Vans Joel Tudor Duct Tape Invitational longboarding series begins today and will continue through Aug. 5. The debut event is being spearheaded by former longboarding world champion and surfing icon Joel Tudor, who invites 16 of the world’s most creative female longboarders to showcase their style and innovation at Huntington Beach. Competitors include longboarding pioneers like: Honolua Blomfield, Jen Smith, Ashley Lloyd, Kassia Meador, local Karina Rozunko and more.

Additional events happening today:

  • A board shaping demonstration with Leila Hurst from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • A guitar lesson with Jessie Clavin from Bleached from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • A glassing demonstration from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Van Doren Village

Starting at 7:00 p.m., Vans and Stabs will host a movie night featuring “Electric Acid Surfboard Test” in Pacific City.
