Thirty minutes out of your day, a lifetime of impact for a local, at-risk student. (Plus, you never even have to step outside the office.) If you’ve been searching for an opportunity to give back, Orange County United Way is now asking for volunteers to join its web-based virtual tutoring program, TutorMate, starting early October.
The TutorMate program provides a flexible, highly rewarding and deeply impactful way for professionals to connect with Orange County-area, at-risk students and help them discover a love of reading. Plus, for the busy professional, the program allows its members to participate without ever leaving their office.
Here’s how it works: You set aside 30 minutes set aside each week (yes, just 30 minutes). During the online sessions, you’ll read stories and play word games with a local youth. The activities provided by TutorMate encourage fluency, comprehension, phonics and spelling skills.
Also, no experience is needed to join TutorMate. The easy-to-use software includes an e-Learning training and walks each new volunteer through each session.
Registration is now open to start tutoring in early October. Volunteers can register via the Orange County United Way website here.
