Plane Makes Emergency Landing on 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa

At around 7:40 p.m. tonight, a small plane made an emergency landing on the 55 Freeway at Del Mar Avenue in Costa Mesa. The Beech G33 aircraft was en route to John Wayne Airport when the pilot reported engine trouble.

Officials noted there was an injured casualty on the ground, though the extent of the victim’s injury was not known at the time of the official police report. The California Highway Patrol, Costa Mesa Fire Department and Costa Mesa Police Department are currently on the scene. As of this writing, the plane is blocking #3, 4 and 5 lanes on the 55 Freeway.
