Happening Tonight: Orange County’s First Dueling Piano Bar Opens at The Triangle

If you’ve never experienced the delicious synchronicity of dueling pianos, have you ever really lived?

Tonight, March 9, the question will be tested as Orange County’s first-ever dueling piano bar, Keys on Main, opens at The Triangle in Costa Mesa. The launch of this 8,500-square-foot space signals an exciting twist in the new-business world of Newport Beach and Costa Mesa, where most of what comes to town arrives in the form of large-scale developments. Live music options have always been somewhat scant around these parts and Keys on Main offers residents and visitors yet another solid option for a musical night out.

The 21-and-older piano bar will initially be open Thursday through Saturday nights, with shows beginning 9 p.m. The shows will feature two performers playing baby grand pianos in front of a custom, 14-foot-wide video wall. Songs are requested by the audience, and can range from classic rock and oldies, to modern pop and alternative music.

“Keys on Main is a modern piano bar, providing a high energy, rock concert type of experience for the audience,” said George Hasenohrl, owner of Keys on Main, which also has locations in Seattle, Tacoma and Salt Lake City. “The lights, video and music combine for the feel of a live concert, not just an old school lounge act.”

All seating at Keys on Main is reserved in advanced, with a cover charge of $5 on Thursday nights and $10 on Friday and Saturday nights. General reserved seating is free but guests must arrive by 8:30 p.m. Premium seating next to the stage is $10 per person and you must arrive by 8:30. VIP packages with reserved lounge seating and bottle service start at $300 with no time restrictions.

Keys on Main features a casual menu that includes bar staples like nachos, flatbreads and wings. In addition to a full bar with beers on tap, select craft beer and a wine list, Keys on Main has signature cocktails with names inspired by chart-topping performers. Observe:

  • The Lady Gaga – Bacardi Dragon Berry rum, Bacardi Coconut rum, pineapple juice and cranberry in a sugar-rimmed martini glass
  • Britney Bitch – Skyy Blood Orange vodka, Watermelon Pucker, Red Bull and grenadine
  • Bohemian Rhapsody – Skyy vodka, Bacardi Superior rum, peach Schnapps, pineapple juice and a splash of cranberry
  • … and more.

So tonight, we suggest you visiting Keys on Main, order a Britney Bitch and plop yourselves down in front of those baby grands to watch expert fingers fly across glossy keys. But one question remains: What song will you request first?
